Being like many other people in the Kansas, I grew up in a small town. I graduated with thirty or so other students from Hoxie High School and knew each of them fairly well. While attending HHS, I was in the art program for three years and did around thirty or so assignments. Only for the final project were we able to come up with our own piece in the sense that everyone else wasn't doing the same media and content.
It felt extremely good to have the freedom to choose the medium, content and size of our final project. In my art classes here at FHSU I have had a very similar experience being able to make nearly whatever I want with just a minimal amount of guidelines. The freedom I have here at FHSU has made me want to go exploring other media or even mixing a couple together just to see what happens. This freedom has brought out the artist in me and made me realize that I am the only thing restricting myself from experiencing the life of an artist.
Without that small amount of freedom in High School, I would probably be studying to be a math teacher or psychologist. The small amount of freedom made me realize what I really enjoyed doing, and that enjoyment came from art. If it wasn't for art then I really think that I would be lost in what I wanted to do with my life.
